They call it poison–

I call it Divine assault,
the most vexing push–
hear the exterior shell crack,
membrane peel–
better or worse my ego invaded
I burst or wither
dependent on this bitter fire.

The greater good! they scream

I hurl my ashen coat aside,
did you hear the crash?
shove a vase of lilies off,
melt the candle wax.

Clotho comes forth with great delight,
“I am the Future, behold your dreams,
Drink now and may your hearts burn bright.”

With a quick kiss they drink in haste,
Crimson poison scorches naked skin,
They cough and sputter to Hade’s notes,
Alas, Chance had switched the liquid within.
