We’ve been liberated too much

Freedom never meant divine power
Let god or gods keep that
We’ve always wanted more

By more I mean not ambition
ambition was water to seeds.

Our fathers planted life
we feed upon their fruits

Misshapen roots ignored,
forgotten roots die,
Pretty little fruits thrive
but for how long?

how long?

we drink the blood of the dead
blood always gave life.
but it’ll dry like the rivers
used up and left to waste

because we’re free
to kill the heart of liberty

I
All this talk about equality
when nothing was equal from the start.

we attempt to strike a balance
and call it equality,
but in all respects it is only the pull and push
of puppets.

Among humans we share little
perhaps only life and death
and even then
some die young and others old
some horrid deaths and others “sweet”

II

I’ve never been more superior
than against my own demons

no matter the victories
the hoots and hollers
I stand before time like a deer
watching the light set fire
we were never stable creatures

but we know when to run.

III
We, academics
demand equality yet
scoff at the idea.

Look! Cultures clash
values clash
but hand in hand
by common humanity
we share the greatest love.

Look! how we bicker
with different paradigms
we have each other’s eyes
and crush them to the ground
but please
hush,
hand in hand
we have humanity:

Our common ground

Limitations from one day to next
today I stay in bed

Cares for hunger gone
sweetest sun shining through the blinds

I kissed my pillow hugged myself
told Today to be tomorrow

one day perished to unwilling nerves
another tick drunk on heavy air.

I saw first
Dante’s Hell spew from the ground
wars charged with infidelity
cheated humanity behind closed curtains

we, violent creatures
fill caskets with fresh roses
should they have dried first
Life underground sounds dull

the smiths and the Jones
a few blocks down a battlefield
honesty carved into a rotting log
we save none for ourselves

give and take
did greed rule wrath
or sloth, drinking coffee in the corner
Did we ever rule ourselves?

the flower that blooms
and the flower that wilts
same culprit judges both.

From here the rays darken my skin
from there I’m red as Hell

we eat ourselves by not eating
his stomach swelled as he starved,
by what science can it be explained
we endanger ourselves

dressed in wool one smart brain,
her IQ far beyond the stars,
who could shoot her down?
only her,
and indeed I saw a falling star

Growth never accompanied without a few steps back

So said one drunk on norms,
through youthful wisdom on alcohol stench,
empty pockets came too late,
swimming in his own urine.

What is reality?
Your reality is not mine.
I saw the leaves you saw the trees
bound by a state of personal theories.

The ground is hard
can you disagree?
Of course     why not
you sink in the sand.

The sky is red
I painted the clouds blue,
crazy or delusional
spare me your conclusions.

the skies the limit–
whoever said that forgot to breathe
or dreamed like a madwoman
eating dust as if sugar.

II

I trace the seams of an old dress,
sad thing, a wash towel now,
only yesterday I wore it for men
Ha, they thought it was a towel!

The state I’m in does not listen
your rubbish remind me of moldy bread,
I could eat you and never understand
why you never said “hello.”

Have you gone bonkers?
I sure haven’t,
I throw spoons at blank walls,
better than a fearful old goon.

I crash into mailboxes
set wrappers on fire
you look as if I’m insane,
but hush, I’m more real than you.
